About JARS

JARS was formed in 2007 as a group to support the efforts of government and non-profit agencies involved in emergency operations. We hope to augment the Johnson County, TX area with reliable amateur radio communication in times of disaster or other civil emergencies.

The emphasis at JARS is on training and fun. We recognize the need to keep a high level of morale within the organization and we also recognize that we are of little use to the community if we are not in a high state of readiness. To ensure our level of preparedness and responsiveness, JARS spends time and effort to stay educated and informed in the following areas, to name just a few:

  • FEMA's Incident Command System (ICS)
  • ARRL Radio Emergency Communication Courses
  • SKYWARN severe weather storm spotter training
  • Net Control, and Directed Net Protocols

Additionally, the JARS team operates on a paging system that rivals most large municipalities. Our unique technological capabilities allows simultaneous notification of all or part of our team using email and cell phone text messages and can be activated by cell phone or email anywhere in the world.

JARS knows that emergency preparedness and communications is serious business. Public Safety is not something taken lightly. We put diligent effort and thought into all things we do to make our neighborhood, and yours, the safest place it can be.
